Voice Communications In A Disaster- Are You Prepared?

Picture this, you’re the CIO of a large enterprise that has an old phone system that you know needs to be replaced

You lose sleep at night about the phone system breaking down.  You don’t even know where to begin to make a business case to replace the phone system.  Who would you call if and when the system dies?

Late one night, you get “the call”.   You know “the call”.  The one that comes at 2:00AM from the CEO’s cell phone.

It’s the call you’ve dreaded for years and hoped would never come.

Was it a fire?

You didn’t feel an earthquake.

“There has been a tornado, and your building took a direct hit and got leveled.”

In your mind, you go through your check list.

File backups? Check.

Backup internet connection? Check.

A way to communicate with our employees and customers?

Oh no.

The phone system.

The old, antiquated piece of junk that you have tried to upgrade for five years.

Your company is left without a way to communicate with customers (or each other) and it will take weeks to replace the system. Never mind the time it would take to get new phone service ordered from the phone company, etc.You start getting so many questions from the rest of the executive team.  How quickly can we be up and running again?  What will happen when someone calls our number?  The questions are never ending- and I don’t know isn’t an acceptable answer.

Don’t let that be your story.

The ability to recover from a disaster fast is a primary benefit of a hosted phone system. Hosted phone systems don’t rely on equipment hanging in a now destroyed closet and they come with mobile apps that can keep your employees connected to each other and your customers.
